Manual Auto Cad

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]
manual auto cad
what is the manual drafting and auto cad drafting?

i want more information...

Manual drafting is done by a person using pencils, t squares, angle and knowledge. Done by hand in other words, on a large sheet of drafting media (paper, velum, etc).

CAD drafting is done by a person using a work station (computer). The 'drafting' is done on the monitor, using the computer application, such as AUTO CAD. The actual engineering drawings are produced by a plotter, using the datastored by the person doing the drafting.

Announcing Autocad ‘Inventor of the month' Competition

Well-known leaders in 3D design software, Autodesk who provide the Autocad series, have announced their latest competition, "Inventor of the year" which runs on from the "Inventor of the month' awards they have been running for the last year.

For 12 months, an inventor has been named ‘Inventor of the year'. All 12 individuals are now nominated for the latter part of the award, which will name the winner as ‘inventor of the year'. Autodesk will make their decision by a public voting process, whereby industry members visit the community website to choose their winning inventor.

So how did Autodesk choose their inventor of the month? Out of thousands of inventors, Autodesk recognised those who have created innovative design and advanced the engineering process using Autodesk Inventor software. The software helps engineers not only decide on the best visuals (in 3D) but actually also helps manufacturers understand how the product will work and how effective it will be, decreasing industry costs on prototypes. So Autodesk has invited the best in the industry to be awarded the ‘Inventor of the year' award by the 27th February 2011.

So what advancements may we see from these top inventors? An Aussie firm, voted in January, used Autocad software to design the largest construction recycling facility, which is capable of recycling around a million tons per year.

April's winner designed a wind turbine for use at home for the Danish market, making them one of the first companies to create wind turbines for a home market. June's winner also designs environmental solutions using Autocad, enabling businesses to cut down on money spent on energy and to produce energy themselves. A team of Stanford graduates also won October's award for their recyclable laptop.

Autodesk have also seen a variety of inventors, from chocolate companies to architectural woodworking firms, win the monthly prize. Each winner has contributed significantly to a different industry or field. Voting ends on the 27th February at 5pm Eastern time. So get your vote in whilst you can!

Which is the best program to know for Architecture?

obviously other than autocadd and photoshop.
I can pick to take one last class before getting an AA in architecture, and I can pick a program, but which one looks best on your resume?
is 3d studio max just a plus?
is maya not used in the industry?
is illustrator usually a requirement?

I am currently enrolled in 3d studio, but doubt it will serve me in the future.

I posted a similar question, but I wasn't too clear before.

I've tried all 3D Max studio, Maya and Illustrator.First of all, lets eliminate Illustrator out of the picture since its not really the best choice of software to do architecture.

If you really want to make the best out of your resume, then I suggest you taking Maya, since it is the professional software tool for animators. Er, 3D studio is just a-ok. But I think construction wise, 3D Max studio suits architecture side compared to Maya since maya is more for the animation.

Both are ok, but I suggest you to stick to your 3D studio class. Max is not bad, y'know ;)

And don't put your priority more on Illustrator. Try this new architectural software, SketchUp 5. Both professional and amateurs use this program. The link is listed below.

Good luck!

Auto Cad Drawing

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]
auto cad drawing

Characteristics of a Cad Professional

Searching a CAD drafting service provider can be an uphill task. What to look for in a service provider? Below are some of the many characteristics a CAD service provider should have.

1. The CAD professional should be technically skilled. The drafter should be proficient with CAD

2. They should understand your language well so that it’s easy for both the parties to communicate. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must

3. They should have a sound knowledge of CAD and its related tools/software

4. They should have a strong client base

In addition to the above mentioned points there are some crosschecks which have to be implemented at the service provider’s end. The person drafting the drawing is responsible for the quality of any work done by them. Once a drawing is completed, a drafter is required to spend some amount of time in checking it and correcting/adding any missed details. Each drawings before submission to the client is certified by the supervisor to be accurate.

Quality checks to be followed

1. Checking that all drawings, details are drawn correctly

2. Spelling check and proof reading.

3. Ensuring drawings have been drawn to the correct dimension.

4. Layering standards – checking that various elements in the drawings have been put on the appropriate layers.

5. Delivery

The completed electronic files can then be sent to the client by any of the following methods:

• Email

• CD or DVD -Copied onto compact disk or DVD

• FTP –for uploading all completed work

Extruding 2D Plan Views For Creating Walls

Shapes can be compound; in other words, shapes made up of more than one spline. You will use the 2D shapes to create 3D walls, a roof, interior trim, a bench, and a lamp post.

Two methods of wall creation are presented; extruding a floor plan (a view from above) to a height and extruding wall elevations (front view, side view, and so on with window and door openings) to a given thickness.

You will take advantage of the ability of your 3D application to use References, or clone objects. These are objects with a one way link back to the original. When you change the original, the Reference changes, but you can change the Reference (such as adding an Extrude modifier, for example) without having it pass the changes back up to the original.

The shapes in the right column of the Top view port are Reference clones of the originals in the left column. This process allows easy editing of the original 2D shapes in the left column, later in the exercise, to affect the 3D objects created by modifying the Reference clones.

If you are familiar with AutoCAD, you will be pleased to learn that when lofting or extruding, MAX handles compound shapes in a manner similar to ACAD's "normal" hatching mode.

For nested, non-overlapping splines in a single shape, 3D Studio MAX starts at the outer spline and creates a solid mesh to the next internal spline. From the first internal spline, MAX creates a void to the next internal spline and continues creating solid, void, solid, as deeply as the splines are nested.

We highly recommend you use this to your advantage by creating complex cross-section shapes with little system overhead, then lofting or extruding into the final 3D object. You can create compound shapes by using the Start New Shape check box when drawing 2D primitives or by collapsing shapes to an Editable Spline and using the Attach option to combine individual shapes into one.

Autocad System Requirements

AutoCAD Classic by born1945

What Are The System Requirements For Autocad 2011?

With another new release from Autodesk, it seems almost impossible to keep up with the Autocad guys. Yet, with this release there is not much in the way of sighing or worrying over finding a new computer to run it on, enabling you to replace only the software, rather than improving the computer's specification.
You do need a good Microsoft operating system to run Autocad 2011. It needs to be relatively up to date, at least XP Home edition, to run Autocad 2011. Operating systems that can run the 2011 program include:
- Microsoft Windows XP Home or Professional edition,
- Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, Enterprise, Business or Ultimate; and
- Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Enterprise, Business or Ultimate.
You can also now run Autocad on Mac, which needs to run the minimum of the 4.1 Apple Mac Pro or later, the Mac Book 5.1 onwards, the iMac 8.1 or later, the Mac mini 3.1 onwards, the MacBook Air 2.1 or later; or MacBook 5.1 onwards. It is always best that you run the program on the most up to date OS you can, as the program will run better.
To run effectively on Windows Operating Systems, you will need for Vista and Windows 7, a good processor, such as Intel Pentium 4 or an Athlon (AMD) dual core processor with 3.0GHz of processing power minimum and the 2001 SSE2 technology, which is available with both types of processors. If your computer is a little older, such as the OS XP, the program still requires the same processor types and SSE2 technology, but demands only a lower GHz at 1.6 GHz and beyond.
Autocad requires that your Windows system has at least 2 GB of RAM free, 1.8 GB of disk space left free for the installation process, internet explorer downloaded (version 7.0 or later) and/or a DVD disc drive, so that the program can be installed via a disc or online.
It is also a further requirement to have a true colour display with a 1024×768 resolution, which will also need a true colour adapter (128mb+, 1280×1024 resolution) and a Direct3D capable workstation class graphics card with 128 MB or greater in order to visually run the program.

Floor Plans

Putnam House, Danvers, Massachusetts, USA - fl...Putnam House, Danvers, Massachusetts, USA - floor plans. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Floor Plans

A house is built with hands, but a home is built with hearts - so the old saying goes. However, too much choice in the form of floor plans can be confusing sometimes. Therefore, an understanding of the different styles and how they suit the individual's needs and tastes is an essential step in the process of building a home.
The bungalow floor plan, for example, suits a laid-back and comfortable lifestyle. It is a popular floor plan throughout America. They are smaller than other modern floor plans. However, they are extremely livable because the living area is open and planned for ease of access. The roof hangs low, the rafters and ridge beams are uncovered, and porches are large, with narrowed quadrangular columns.
Colonial floor plans are elegant without being ostentatious. Moreover, they have an element of history attached to them. These floor plans come from the early American settlements of the East Coast. Colonial architecture ranged from New England to Georgia and, therefore, there are regional variations in style.
Colonial floor plans introduce symmetry, with doors that are centered along with a sensible array of windows. The second story is very similar to the main floor in terms of size. They have brick-facing exteriors or clapboard siding, typically. The contemporary colonial house will have modern facilities.
Country style floor plans represent the quintessential farmhouses that we have so often seen in the movies. Country homes are planned in such a way as to feel comfortable. The floor plan of a country home delivers a rustic and relaxing atmosphere - it doesn't matter where it is built. They are characterized by roomy porches and large kitchens which are situated right next to the family room. Some country houses have steep roofs and irregular layouts. Still others have a front face that is not symmetrical, a pitched roof and a spacious front porch.
The ranch floor plan is conventional and matter-of-fact. The roofs are low pitched with a large garage attached to the house. Ranch homes are single-storied. Split-level floor plans are not unusual.
The façade is brick or wooden, with large windows. Ranch homes typically have an L-shaped hall which combines the living room and dining room into one area, with a hallway leading to the family room and a group of bedrooms all on one side of the house. A patio at the back with a glass sliding door leading to it is not unusual for a ranch house.

CAD Drafting Technology

The world of drafting changed forever in the 90's when CAD software became more exposed to the general population. Before CAD became the drafting industries standard practice Drafters would draw every line by hand with the use of a drafting board, and several hand held tools. This method was much more time consuming, and for isometric drawings(3D) it could take days or weeks to complete complicated renderings. Over the last ten years, several software companies have made advancements to CAD software making the task of drafting more user friendly on the computer.
If you're not familiar with CAD or CADD it's the acronym for Computer Aided Drafting. Sometimes its referred to as Computer Aided Drafting Design also. 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional drawings are created when the draftsmen enters information into a CAD software program. Lines are drawn on the X, Y, and Z axis to create 3 dimensional models. When designing 2D drawings only the X, and Y axis are used which represent the left, right, up, and down directions. The Z axis is used to create 3D models and represents the depth.
I can remember as a child my Father teaching me to draw lines, and to write my A, B, C's on a drafting board he made for my room. These boards have a sliding ruler which allowed you to create lines in a straight fashion, and they were covered with a slick material. This allowed rulers, and other tools to slide easily along its surface without catching to it. The task was much more daunting, and you had to be extremely careful when drawing lines because even with an eraser mistakes could be seen easily. I enjoyed drafting like this as a kid, but since I've been exposed to CAD I would never go back.
It seems like every year advancements in computer technology go farther and quicker than the year before it. When I first started using CAD software all the lines had to be put in manually with commands on the keyboard. They would tell the software to create the lines starting point, length, and what angle to direction it. This process seemed to take forever compared to the way lines are created nowadays. With the CAD software available today you can perform all kinds of commands in a 3D environment. For instance, if you wanted to add a radius to a corner that has already been created, all you have to do is click the command for a fillet. It will then ask you for a dimension on the radius, and after you enter the dimension it will create a perfectly smooth and rounded corner.
CAD drafting technology becomes more advanced every year with the introduction of updated software. For now, and I feel for a long time to come, CAD software will remain the drafting industries standard practice for creating architecture, mechanical, civil, electrical, plumbing, and any other type design work. The days of using hand tools, and drafting boards is over. These techniques will never disappear, but for now will remain more of a hobby to most draftsmen.

Architects, designers and local authorities; they can all express the problem with their large format images and the answer's right in this very sentence; large.
The problem with plans, large format drawings and blueprints is that they are ridiculously large. Of course, in their own way, this is pretty justified as they use a certain level of detail to emphasise what is required for those certain projects, however this makes them incredibly inconvenient to handle and examine when it is required. For years people were putting large format drawings onto the likes of microfiche, microfilm and aperture cards in an effort to get something large into a small space. Whilst the fiche and films did the trick a number of years back, they have become something of a niche area with readers becoming increasingly harder to find, difficult to repair and limited in their scope. So it only makes sense that the next step would be to head the way that most document types are going; digital.
Often professional document scanning companies will also offer large format document scanning and CAD conversion services. As well as conventional standard industrial strength document scanning equipment for helping offices to go paperless, they will usually have scanners which can scan documents up to an A0 sizing, plus considerably larger images than these can be taken apart and scanned in pieces before being stitched back together in an image editing program. This gives the added convenience of being able to edit the file as well as view it in its original format on your computer screen with the ability to zoom and pan on the image and losing the need to handle large pieces of paper and less risk of damaging the original files. Alternatively if you no longer wish to keep hold of the large format documents they can be disposed of leading to more space becoming available.
After the initial scanning, you can choose to have the documents converted through CAD conversion. This isn't always a necessity however it is incredibly useful and beneficial if you decide you would like the ability to edit the original documents or extract certain aspects from them to use for brand new projects. This usually involves an initial scan of the images before more accurate manual work is done to ensure that the CAD conversion provides an accurate vision of what the document would be like had it been produced in programs such as AutoCAD, making them as flexible and editable as possible for you. This kind of service can usually take a few days in total but isn't as expensive as you might think with companies typically charging £80 ($100) and up for large format work, which considering the work that goes into the process is very good value. The time that can be saved as well as the already mentioned space saving capabilities makes this all the more interesting as well as the aspect of having a modern system in place, one which will last for many years to come.

Best Architectural Software

This is a short review of some of the best architectural software.
Autodesk products: AutoCAD, 3ds Max, Revit
AutoCAD is essential and the most used architectural software. It is 2D and 3D CAD design tool, but commonly used for 2D architectural designing. From version 2007, every new version is big improvement in 3D modeling, significantly improving the work with solids and rendering. There is special version for architects - AutoCAD Architecture, which combines tools for architectural drawing with familiar AutoCAD working environment.
3dsMax is one of the most popular 3D modeling, rendering and animation software. With 3dsMax you can create complex 3D architectural models from 2D plans. It is good idea to use 3dsMax in conjunction with AutoCAD: simultaneously taking advantages of powerful 3dsMax modeling tools and AutoCAD precision.
Revit Architecture is the solution for parametric modeling (Building Information Model). By designing the building model in 2D, 3D or both simultaneously, you can create plans, sections, and table layouts. Autodesk Revit can be used independently or in conjunction with the AutoCAD. The main difference between the Revit Architecture and AutoCAD is that Revit works with 3D parametric architectural models.
Graphisoft products: ArchiCAD, Artlantis
Similarly to Revit Architecture, when you create building in ArchiCAD, you don't draw and cut lines like in AutoCAD. Instead, you virtually create walls, set doors and windows and add other building elements. Every element has smart architectural parameters that you can change anytime. The most basic element in ArchiCAD is wall. Other architectural elements (stairs, beams, columns...) are intelligent 3D objects also. It is parametric variable, and you can easy adjust it.
Artlantis is not ArchiCAD plug-in but the stand-alone rendering application developed especially for architects and designers. By default, ArchiCAD has installed the Artlantis export plug-in so you can export the model in the Artlantis file format. You can transfer the geometry, textures, perspective cameras, the sun, lights and layers.
Rhino 3D (+ Grasshopper 3D)
Rhino is different from most 3D packages and it is more like a CAD program. It is well-known that AutoCAD is designed for mathematically precise construction. However, problem is when the object is not only for simulation, but also for the visualization and representation. For this reason Rhino is good choice if you need a modeling tool that is both accurate as CAD, and that has a good visualization.
The best-known and most popular plug-in for Rhino is Grasshopper 3D (ex Explicit History). Grasshopper is primarily created for exploring various forms with parameterization and algorithms with minimal knowledge of programming and scripting, but you need a lot of mathematics knowledge.
ProgeSOFT progeCAD
ProgeCAD offers a fully compatible dozens of times cheaper replacement for AutoCAD. ProgeCAD user interface is very similar to AutoCAD one. Menus, toolbars, status bars and shortcuts are almost the same. For that reason, AutoCAD users will not have problem to work in progeCAD.
Also there is Architecture version, cheaper replacement to Revit and ArchiCAD. ProgeCAD Architecture is of 2D and 3D architectural tool that uses DWG as the native format in conjunction with BIM approach. ProgeCAD Architecture offers a library of 2D and 3D parametric objects and blocks.
Conclusions
There are two largest competitors in CAD world - Autodesk AutoCAD and Graphisoft ArchiCAD, and they are commonly used CAD software by architects.
When you create model in AutoCAD, obviously you render in 3dsMax, and when you create model in ArchiCAD you render in Artlantis. 3ds Max is much harder to learn than Artlantis.
ProgeCAD is dozens of times cheaper alternative to AutoCAD, but with less comfort. Also progeCAD Architecture is cheaper alternative to Revit and ArchiCAD.
3ds Max is more focused towards video industry and effects, which do not require high precision. In contrast, Rhino's focus is on model's precision and therefore only uses NURBS technique.

Best Free Open Source CAD Software

With the various types of software available to be used to design models in the form of two dimensional, 2D or three dimensional, 3D setting, the free CAD design software is the most widely used software. It has been seen utilized by people in the field of home design, interior design, architectural design, mechanical engineering, woodworking, landscape design, furniture design, textile design, bathroom design, jewelry manufacture, fashion design, printed circuit board production and automotive production.
Proprietary CAD programs could cost up to thousand of US dollars or exceeding that figure for advanced applications. Most of the time, the cost of the software is never affordable for meager businessmen or independent sole designer, especially those who are new in the field. In the course of looking for cheaper alternatives, majority of them would stumble upon the open source CAD software for both the 2D and 3D environments. Plethora of choices of open source software is available for download via the internet. A bulk of them are free of charge hence designers can accentuate their budget on other supports and customization.
For 3D modeling, one recommended free CAD design software is the BRL-CAD. This software supports all types of geometric representations, encompassing those implicit solid shapes like cones, boxes, tori, ellipsoids and those explicit solid figures obtained from the collections of n-Manifold Geometry, (NMG), Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) surfaces and purely faceted mesh geometry. You can easily visit the download page of BRL-CAD then click onto the download link. Choose the version for the Linux, Solaris, BSD, Mac OS, and Microsoft Windows or other relevant operation systems.
Apart from the BRL-CAD, there are other CAD programs that suit many different types of users. For example, CADEMIA is free open source software suitable for Mac, Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems, certainly an inexpensive substitute for those looking for CAD software. Other options include the Archimedes, the supreme choice for architects and QCad, especially feasible, simple and easy for 2D drawing.

Computer aided design (CAD)

Free Cad Software Download

Author: George Ure

The free CAD software from www.emachineshop.com is intelligent software that allows you to create your own design and also check whether the design can be machined -- all at the click of your mouse. The software has been designed to be easily used by beginners and powerful enough for professional engineers. Informative prompts and 3D views of parts being designed contribute to ease of use. To get started designing parts and having them built by eMachineShop, all you need to do is download the free CAD software from eMachineShop. The software begins as a 3D CAD program but also incorporates an automated machinist expert to advise you on fine points of design, instant pricing for a wide range of materials and processes and order processing with order tracking.

While most CAD Software packages are designed to create general geometric shapes without regard for manufacturability, price, or setting up real jobs for ordering, the eMachineShop free CAD software was designed from the ground up to serve all these functions in a seamless yet-powerful package. The price quotation portion of the software download allows you to select the best price and order delivery option for your requirements. Even the shipping cost is automatically calculated by the software.

eMachineShop does not review designs for applicability to a given design problem, but encourages customers to download the easy-to-use software and determine for themselves whether eMachineShop can meet their needs. A one-off part for a new invention may be less tightly engineered than a comparatively more exotic aerospace part in a mission critical application.

At www.emachineshop.com simple jobs on simple machines generally start at around $150 for setup and as low as $1 per part (or even lower) for simple parts run in quantity. eMachineShop is competitive on most types of parts - in small or large quantity.

With eMachineShop a single command in the software gives you a price instantly. There is no time wasted in gathering price quotations. Potential customers of eMachineShop simply draw or import the design and receive their instant price quote.

Investing just a few minutes to download the cad cam software will allow you to discover an exciting new tool which can be used in many ways. Inventors, professional product designers, engineers, and even hobbyists agree on this point. The free CAD software allows for ordering by all major credit cards, PayPal, check or money order. Assistance is always just a click away.

Basic Guide to Learning AutoCAD

Starting from today, and by God's grace on a continuous basis, I shall be sending out to you bit by bit my AutoCAD Manual from my archive for my friends out there who love to learn this wonderful and interesting tool for Engineers and Draftsmen for free!
Starting AutoCAD
Starting AutoCAD is very simple. You simply double click on the AutoCAD icon on your desktop, wait for it to load just like any other windows package, OR, click on Start - All programs - Autodesk - AutoCAD 2009 - AutoCAD 2009.
The New Features Workshop welcome screen opens when you first start AutoCAD and leads to several animated demonstrations and explanations of the new features included in the latest release of AutoCAD.
Next after the new feature dialogue box appears the AutoCAD user interface.
The Graphics Window.
At the top of the graphics window sit the Ribbon, the Quick Access toolbar to the left, and the InfoCenter and related tools on the right.
The title bar is similar to the title bar in any Windows program. It contains the program name (AutoCAD) and the title of the current drawing with its path, as long as any drawing other than the default Drawingn.dwg is open. Below the title bar is the Ribbon, where you'll find most of the AutoCAD commands and tools needed to complete any drawing task. Related tasks are found under the different tabs, which are further segmented into panels containing similar tools.
To the far right of the title bar are the InfoCenter, Communications Center, Favorites, and Help buttons. You can enter a question in the field to the left of the InfoCenter button to quickly access information from the Help system through the InfoCenter's drop-down panel. With the Communications Center, you can determine what type of information, such as software updates, product support, or RSS feeds, Autodesk sends directly to your system. With the Favorites tool, you can define a list of help or informational topics that can be quickly accessed whenever you need them. The Help button is a direct link to the AutoCAD help system.
The blank middle section of the screen is called the drawing area. Notice the movable crosshair cursor. The crosshairs on your cursor might extend completely across the screen. Later in this lesson, I will show you how to modify the length of the crosshairs as well as make a few other changes.
Notice the little box at the intersection of the two crosshair lines. This is one of several forms of the AutoCAD cursor. When you move the cursor off the drawing area, it changes to the standard Windows pointing arrow. As you begin using commands, it will take on other forms, depending on which step of a command you're performing.

Drafting Tools in AutoCAD - Snap and Grid

We've got snap and grid in AutoCAD. Let's talk about
snap and grid. Let's see how we can use it and why we
would use it.
Snap restricts the cursor movements to specified
intervals. That is handy. Lines will have a specific
length.
Still. If you're using object snaps than you can pick a
point that is not on an interval that has been
specified. We'll talk about object snap later.
With grid switched on dots are displayed in the screen.
The dots help to visualize distances. Often the grid
interval is the same as the snap interval.
That is important. You can have grid dots displayed in
the screen. Now you want to print your drawing. The
dots are not printed.
OK. We know what snap and grid are. But we want to know
more. We want to know how we can set the intervals and
how we can switch it on and off.
Let's start with setting the intervals. There are two
ways for doing that. Whatever way you choose. You do it
over the Drafting Settings dialog box.
Click on Tools in the menu bar. A pull down menu shows
up. In the pull down menu click on Drafting Settings.
The Drafting Settings dialog box is displayed.
There are four tabs in the Drafting Settings dialog
box. The Snap and Grid tab is in front. That's exactly
what we want.
In the dialog box we see two check boxes and we see
four areas. The checkboxes can be used for switching on
or off snap and grid.
Let's have a look at the Snap area and the Grid area.
First the Snap area. In that area you can enter values
for the spacing.
You can enter a value for the X spacing and you can
enter a value for the Y pacing. The spacing set the
interval I was talking about.
There is more you can do in that area. You can enter an
angle, an X base, and a Y base. The angle gives the
angle of the snap intervals.
Most of the time you do not change the angle. You leave
the angle at zero. But the X base and the Y base.
What's that?
The X base and the Y base gives the starting point of
the snap. As before. Do not change it. Leave it as it
is. At zero.
You now know how you can do the settings for the snap.
You do it in the Snap area of the Drafting Settings
dialog box.
But we can also do something with the settings of the
grid. That is done in the Grid area of the dialog box.
This time we can do less.
We can only change the X spacing and the Y spacing. We
cannot change the angle or the X base and Y base of the
grid.
This is what is done most of the time. Most of the time
the spacing for the grid is the same as the spacing for
the snap.
That is what is happening. The grid follows the snap
settings for angle and the X base and Y base. So there
is no need to change those settings.
This is what we now saw. You can do the settings of the
snap and the grid in the Drafting Settings dialog box.
And you can switch them on and off.
Before I continue. I must tell you about the third area
in the Drafting Settings dialog box. It is the Snap
style and type area.
For the snap type we can set Grid snap and we can set
PolarSnap. If we go for a Grid snap type then e can
select a rectangular snap or an isometric snap.
If you're creating isometric drawings, then you want to
go for an isometric snap. The snap will have the
isometric angles.
I'm not going to talk about PolarSnap now. I will do
that later. I will do that as we're talking about Polar
Tracking. In the next article.
But there is another way. Look at your screen. Do you
see the status bar? In the status bar there are two
buttons.
In the status bar there is the Snap button and there is
the Grid button. You can click on the buttons. To have
snap and grid switched on and off.
Something else you can do with the buttons. You can
right click them. If you do a short cut menu is
displayed.
If you right click the Snap button then you'll find the
following options in the shortcut menu:
- PolartSnap On
- Grid Snap On
- Off
- Settings
If you right click on the Grid button then you'll find
the following options in the shortcut menu:
- On
- Off
- Settings
You can imagine where the on and off options stand for.
Those options can be sued to switch snap and grid on or
off.
But we already saw. There is a quicker way. We can also
click on the Snap and Grid buttons in the status bar.
In fact. There is another quick way.
You can press the F7 function key to switch grid on or
off. And you can press the F9 function key to switch
snap on or off.
Oh. In the shortcut menu under the Snap button you also
see the PolarSnap On option. As I said before. We'll
talk about it alter.
But there is the Settings option in the shortcut menus
under the Snap button and the Grid button. Click on
that option.
If you do the Drafting Settings dialog box is opened.
We already have seen what can be done in the Drafting
Settings dialog box.
But this is what we now know. Using the shortcut menu
under the Snap and Grid button. That is a quicker way
to open the Drafting Settings dialog box.
This is it for today. Now you know everything that you
need to know about snap and grid. Tomorrow we're going
to talk about polar tracking.
See you tomorrow.
