What programs, software and languages do I have to learn to be a Graphic Designer?
I do web design as a hobby. One day I would like to take on some clients, but I want to be prepared to be able to do what they may require. What basics do I need to learn. I would like to learn as much as possible from free sources on the net. I will take classes for whatever else I require.
P.S. I am also interested in 3d design and multimedia interaction. What programs are best to learn for that?
I know some of the following:
HMTL, some XHT, DHTML, Java
CSS
Adobe (Macromedia suite)
Adboe Ilustrator, photoshop
Daz 3d
Please let me know your suggestions for things to learn and any sources you might be able to point me towards.
Thanks in advance.
In addition to what you've already listed -- a very good start -- you'll very likely need to know Flash. Get familiar with Dreamweaver, even if you can code HTML by hand. The idea is to save time on the mundane to increase productivity. You may also want to learn Quark or InDesign or some other layout software. Graphic design has a large web market, obviously, but you may also be able to attract some print clients if you learn the right software. Photoshop will be your best friend, of course.
