Is Corel considered an Auto CAD program? If not, what is the difference?
I do some line drawings in Corel for the lighting company that I work for. The local community college is offering a beginners' Auto CAD class that I may be interested in taking. I don't know very much about Corel..just what little I have been able to teach myself. I just want to know if there is a difference between Corel and Auto CAD. Thanks!
Corel is a software company, just like Adobe or Autodesk.
AutoCAD is the CAD (or CADD) software made by Autodesk. It is completely different from the "drawing" programs out there. It is much more technical and can work in true 3D. Everything is based on specs, rather than visual appearance, and can be translated into instructions for CAM rendering or into plans for construction. You would want to take this if you have plans to work in architecture, engineering, or manufacturing. If you are just doing graphical artistic stuff, you might be interested, but today's drawing programs are pretty capable for that type of work.
