May I know what is the role of engineering drawings for a consultant?
it depends on the kind of consultant and what his role is in the design process.
there are consultants who prepare construction drawings ad specifications and together these are called "construction documents" or "CDs". These CDs are prepared by the engineers and architects. The sole purpose of the CDs is to convey to the construction contractor what is to be built and what materials he is to use to construct the various elements of the proejct.
other consultants came come after the project has begun construction. in this case, the contractor who is building the project may require a specialized sub-consultant to prepare shop drawings, design a specific element purposely omitted in the CDs, consult on soil properties not anticipated in the design process.
