Career choice in engineering?

I'm currently finishing a degree in movement science (anatomy and physiology), i realized i don't want to do this for the rest of my life so i'm going back to school for engineering. I dont know what type of engineering to look into though. I'm interested in building structures, more hands on type stuff like drawing out plans, and creating buildings, but i'm also interested in creating equipment for the military, for example, weapons and other military support. So with that in mind, anyone have any experience or insight on what type of engineering is best for me??? Please help me out! thanks.

Given that you already have some education, you may consider approaching an engineering firm for a paraprofessional role, such as a drafter (structural, machine design, civil, etc.) This will give you some decent experience to see if it's really something you want to pursue. You might also take some AutoCad courses through junoir college or technical school.

For the type of engineering you seem to be interested in, a degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in strucutres, or a degree in mechanical engineering with an emphasis in machine design or stress analysis will fit your requirements. The first couple years of these curricula are very similar. They diverge in the junior and senior years.

Engineering is all about using principles of science (physics, chemistry) and math to solve real world problems. You draw on the findings of the great thinkers (Newton, Pascal, Young, Euler, etc.) and then create math models that simulate physical systems. It can be exciting. It helps to have a passion for math, or at least not be afraid of it.
