If you can't afford all the traditional super expensive graphic software- like most people. I'd recommend just looking into open source products. You can always just try searching for open source+ the type of product you want.

I do have some that I can recommend though. For 3D art you could try this product:
http://www.blender.org/

My boyfriend used to use it before he bought 3D Studio Max. Or if you want to learn Maya, they do have a full educational version you can d/l from their website. While it's great for learning, anything you export will have a big watermark in it so you can really use it for projects.

If you need a photoshop-type program you can try the www.thegimp.org. It's a good alternative to photoshop and will be able to do most of the same stuff.

Also there is a website I found that can provide the you with open source substitutes for all types of programs. http://www.osalt.com/
Hopefully it will be helpful.

If your looking for inexpensive alternatives rather than open source, you can try www.download.com. There you can download all types of software that cost a lot less than the standard programs. They also allow for you to d/l many demo's and trial versions so you can try it before you make up your mind.
Hope that info helps.
