what's a easy (to use and install) , and cheap or free cartoon animation program?
I've read the other q & a's on this subject but haven't come to a conclusion on what i should get. synfig studio looks like what i'd want, but i see it can cause computer problems. Any similar ones? I like the idea of being able to scan a character drawing i made in and manipulate it to make it walk and stuff instead of drawing thousands of images. And If i made a cartoon i'd want to be able to upload it to youtube.
One of the other problems is most seem to require your graphics card to be set up a certain way or be a certain type. I don't know what this computer has (i have win xp home and a amd athlon x2 cpu btw) or how i would change it. My biggest fear is messing the computer up (and which is virus and spyware free?).
It could be 3d instead of 2d animation also.
Some of the better commercial programs such as Digicel Flipbook, Toon Boom, TVPaint, TAB, and PAP, have Student or Express versions that are fairly inexpensive. However, you might be disappointed by how crippled these stripped down programs are compared to their more expensive Pro versions. But if you look hard enough you should be able to find them cracked online (rap idshare, bitt orrent). There are some free alternatives.
If you're doing old school drawn on paper frame by frame stuff or stop-motion or 2D, I'd suggest MonkeyJam. It's free.

If you're on a Mac, use Pencil(there's PC and Linux versions as well).

If you're not sure about Synfig, you can try Creatoon which also does vector based symbol oriented animation with tweening.
