Tablet Drawing Software

tablet drawing software
What kind of drawing/painting software do you like?

So i recently got a Tablet (Drawing pad for my computer...) and i absolutely love it, the problem is, i got it for drawing and the software i have now (Corel Painter Essentials 4, it came with my tablet) doesn't really let me do what i want like shading and backgrounds. It's just harder to get the effect i intended. it's also extremely hard to color pencil drawings that I've scanned into the computer (which is mainly what i do)

So i just wanted to know what you would recommend (i would prefer free but i know i'm not gonna get much from that, so in your recommendation, if you could list the average price, that'd be great) So yeah, i just want a really good painting/drawing software that will allow me to do the things i want.

Thanx in advance ^_^
