external cd/dvd drive?
have a laptop and the cd/dvd will not work, draw opens but will not recognise discs. would like to buy an eternal cd/dvd player were you plug in via a usb cable also would this need software as well. would this be ok or would the external not work because of problems with the original cd drive.

device manager > dvd drive > uninstall > reboot your computer and let windows reload the drivers
